After reading an inspiring article, Hello from New Hampshire, by my friends at Roarloud.net, I too wanted to help bring a sense of togetherness and hopefulness to others.  My hope is to also inform you about whats going on in my little community in Florida. Before I do however, I want to reflect on the unforgettable experiences of California. As you read on, I wish to inspire you about a new appreciation for home. So here is my Hello from Florida.

Hello from Florida

Prior To Move

Although it was just one month ago; we were taping up boxes, and packing them up into a moving truck. Our long journey of driving across the United States made us feel we were in our own little world. The news of the virus was still at a minimum and we didn’t think too much of it.

Travel memories of downtown San Diego California

I admit my eyes became a bit foggy as I passed by the ‘You are leaving California’ sign. Cruising down the road, so many travel memories flash through my mind. Prior to our relocation and the recent lock down of California, you might find us hiking around the local area. As well as taking long road trips to conquer world- renowned places.

Driving

With my hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road, I reminisce of that amazing day climbing to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. I am sad to learn that this park is now closed (along with some others) due to the coronavirus.

California Memories

It is extremely hard to imagine my former hometown of San Diego is basically shut down. I find it very uplifting remembering the time the in- laws were in town and we all went to the beach. San Diego sure does offer so many beautiful places to indulge in. As well as all the incredible hiking trails and stunning landscapes that surround you! I am so grateful to have had the chance to live in this gorgeous place for so many years.

New Beginnings

But there are many other gorgeous places in the U.S. that one can call home as well. Home is where your heart is, my mom always told me. The drive across America went better than I thought.  It’s great to see the diversity of the states as you pass through them. From the peaceful desert to red rock mountains, the swamps of the Bayou to the flat lands filled with palm trees. I am so thankful for these beautiful lands we live in.

Home

Finally, we arrive into the state of Florida and I am loving the feel of sunshine on my face and wind in my hair. Rolling into town, I am thrilled to meet the neighbors and join in on community activities. I have plans to attend the yoga, Monday morning coffee, and art sessions but I am crushed when I hear about the cancellation of all activities.

Settling In

My email inbox includes daily cancellations of most of the community activities and events. I sure do miss going to the gym. But things are still not too bad. Florida is very vulnerable and not on lock down yet, it has just recently shut down certain parts of the state. However, in the midst of all this virus pandemic stuff, I try to remember that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. **Update: Florida is on a ‘stay at home’ order at this time.

Be Thankful

We have each other, our families, friends, and our health. Safe and sound in our small lovely home in a fabulous community where we have been welcomed and greeted with smiles, waves and hellos. We are surrounded with beautiful nature, trees, flowers, and wildlife. We are pretty close to the river to go walk out on the bridge and enjoy a sunset on the water alone.

For now, we are rediscovering home. We are cleaning out items that we’ve carried with us for years, hanging artwork on walls (since we just moved in), and arranging furniture. These tasks are getting done now since they may have been put off otherwise. It feels good to accomplish things!

Final Thoughts

So please try not to entangle yourself in the fear and negativity of what is going on now. Turn this situation into a positive and make the most of it. Take notice of the small things; appreciate your surroundings including your own home and back yard. We continue to take daily walks through the community in nature with wildlife.

You will be surprised at what you will find when you take the time to look. Appreciate the time you have with your loved ones.  Hang in there my friends; we will make it through this together. The morning sun will shine again! Please be safe, stay well, and stay home. It will be an exciting time when we can all travel and explore once again!
