When the opportunity arose to play a couple rounds of golf and stay at this golf championship locale, we said yes. This is a rare chance to stay at this beautiful resort accommodation on the east coast of Florida. TPC Sawgrass also offers a golf event for amateur golf players both men and women. So, this is a perfect opportunity to take a road trip to the First Coast of Florida! Read on to learn about my experience at Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa, here is my review.

Florida is home to some of the best golf in the country. Actually, Florida has more golf courses than any other state. Golf courses around the state will offer this kind of experience. It was a treat to experience the TPC Sawgrass stay and play event!

Road Trip to the First Coast at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida

There is nothing better than a road trip in Florida! One of the most enjoyable and interesting things about it, is passing through all the small towns. You have a chance to look at small town America and hard working people with sometimes a simpler way of living. Here are a few small towns we passed through on our road trip to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

• Bushnell is a very small town and has some of the cheapest gas stations.
• Ocala is absolutely beautiful with all of its equestrian ranches and open spaces.
• Polatka is a nice little town that displays a lot of the Old Florida charm with its historical, cultural, and natural properties.
• Hastings is an area with so much open space it is refreshing to pass through this area.
• Saint Augustine the historic place of the Fountain of Youth! Bursting with charm and history, this neat small city will take you back in time. We surely didn’t spend enough time and will be planning another visit here.
  

What does the First Coast Mean?

The First Coast refers to a particular region on the north Atlantic coast of Florida. There are essentially five counties that make up this area including Jacksonville, Duval, Baker, Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns. This slogan name “First Coast” began in the 1980s as a marketing campaign for the area. Florida also has other regions with names similar such as Space Coast and Gold Coast.

My Review of Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa

Before we go any further with golf, let’s take a brief look at the experience of residing at Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa. The property is truly full of beauty and nature. It offers loads of serenity and peaceful settings throughout. With a taste of contemporary designed flare, the hotel lobby and restaurants are comfortable and convenient. Infused with television screens and technology stations, the cozy seating areas are spaced out around the lounge lobby perfectly. Therefore, this creates a fabulous stay for any casual, business, or vacationing visitor!

Fitness Center and Day Spa

During your stay, there are plenty of fitness and wellness options to take part. You can start by visiting the fitness center and day spa. The gym is moderate in size with plenty of treadmills, stationary bicycles, hand weights, and nautilus type equipment. The luxurious spa offers treatment packages with respect to facials, massage, hair and nails. However, during my stay, the spa services were closed these two days unfortunately.

Escape the Ordinary and Indulge in Luxury

*NOTE: The only thing I must point out is about the bed. The mattress is terribly uncomfortable. This isn’t the only Marriott I’ve experienced a bad night’s sleep because of the very uncomfortable mattress. During my entire visit, I was in a fog because of the lack of sleep. A message to Marriott; please invest in much needed comfortable mattresses!

The Lounge Areas

The four outdoor swimming pools are great for taking a dip to wind down from a day of adventure or meetings and work. So you can melt away with luxury in the well designed rooms filled with clean lines and comfort. Because there are plenty of seating areas within the room to sit and enjoy a movie on TV or escape in a good book. Or just simply sit near the window to look out and soak in the view of tranquility.

Marriott Cabana Beach Time

The Marriott also offers a private Cabana Beach Club on Ponte Vedra Beach. So you can take in a cool beverage at the covered bar and seating area. Then indulge after you take a dip in the private swimming pool. Another option is to grab a large beach towel and head out to splashing Atlantic Ocean waves and relax on the beach!

Dining

The dining at the Marriott unfortunately was closed during our stay in the summer of 2021. Meanwhile, we are lucky to stumble upon a delicious Mexican place called Salsas Mexican Restaurant in nearby Jacksonville; and it did not disappoint! This dining spot offers some of the best salsa in Florida thus far. Which is why I highly recommend this dining establishment if you happen to be in this area of the state.

A Weekend at the Amazing TPC Sawgrass Review

The experience of playing and visiting TPC at Sawgrass is both incredible and invigorating! You can play golf on the same prestigious golf course as the PGA Professional Tour players! During the actual PGA Players Championship tournament however, it is entirely different throughout the property. Especially in the clubhouse which is overflowing with merchandise displayed and is sold watermarked with this historic tournament title and logos (The Players Championship).

Now let’s talk golf. From the moment you drive up the beautiful street into the TPC Sawgrass property, it will immediately make you grasp for air. This 77,000 square foot property is the staple of this entire club. With its Mediterranean decor and exquisite interior spaces, you will notice both comfort and charm.

TPC Sawgrass Golf Course

Have you played here-TPC Sawgrass-Stadium? You might recognize one of the memorable things about TPC Sawgrass is its signature hole at the Stadium Course’s 17th, also known as the “Island Green,” (this is essentially on a small peninsula). The measurements include 137 yards from tee to green; which a pro would use a pitching wedge; and consists of a mare 78-foot long green with a tiny bunker in front of it. According to Wikipedia, an estimate of 100,000 balls are found from the surrounding water every year.

Every hole you will find nature, peaceful characteristics and a challenge of skill. The majestic canopy trees and flower foliage will certainly be a distraction during play. Bring out your best and test your golf talents at the most famous 17th hole, TPC Sawgrass. The golf island green that will make it a moment to remember.

TPC at Sawgrass is located in Ponte Vedra, Florida. This slow, quaint and quiet beach town is conveniently located between Jacksonville and historic St. Augustine. And of course, its coast line sandy beaches will help you rid yourself of any worries! If you get a chance to visit this area, you will not be disappointed!

World Golf Hall of Fame

Now if playing golf at an award winning course isn’t enough, why not indulge yourself into the history of golf at the World Golf Hall of Fame! Located just a short distance away in St. Augustine, Florida. There is no shortage of everything golf, special tributes and history to its members here. You will enjoy interesting, engaging, and interactive exhibits and stories from golf’s best. *Note: as of the latest events occurring in the golf industry, some of the the museum’s contents may have changed since LIV Golf.

There are the players’ lockers that display details of both personal and professional memorabilia. One of the interesting spaces in the museum is devoted to celebrities, primarily Bob Hope.

One of the coolest things you can enjoy here is something called “The Players Experience.” Included with your admission, you get the chance to take a shot on the 132 yard island green which resembles the 17^th Hole at TPC Sawgrass.

Final

Florida is just simply amazing and offers such diversity in nature and adventure. The east coast of Florida certainly has plenty of activities, culture, and coastal beauty! The overall experience at TPC Sawgrass is nothing short of spectacular. I definitely recommend a visit to the First Coast of Florida.
